Education

This is an important part of the museum's raison d’etre. The museum has an Education Officer, Ann Mansell, who will be happy to help you to plan your visit and to meet your aims and objectives. The Education Programme is flexible and designed to help you. The museum is very ‘hands on’ for many artefacts, a museum quiz and treasure hunt are available for all children visiting the museum, helping to engage young visitors with the displays.

Entry to the museum is £1 per pupil. Many of the museum’s volunteers have experience in a variety of forms of education, from primary school to agricultural college.

Enactor Sessions

Pre-bookable ‘Enactor sessions' for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 provide the opportunity for ‘hands on’ and make history ‘come to life’. There is the chance to try costumes on and for pupils to enact different roles. Professional actors, who are all qualified teachers, deliver these sessions. All periods of history are covered: - Victorians, World War II, Tudors and Stuarts, and Romans and Celts. These can be arranged to suit you and can currently be arranged for approximately £3 per pupil.

A Day in Usk

We are now working with Usk Castle so why not let us help you to plan a day in Usk, visiting the museum, Usk Castle and following the town trail? It’s ideal for a local study and there are numerous possibilities for project work. The ‘Treasure Hunt’ helps to focus KS1 or KS2 pupils.

Mission Visits

This academic year, it is possible to arrange ‘mission visits’ in your school. The charge is kept to a minimum to cover travel and incidental expenses. These visits last for 1 hour and focus on either World War II Evacuee or Victorian homes & family life.
