Within the malt
barn the many rural artefacts are arranged by season –
ploughs for autumn, hedging tools for winter, shepherding
aids for spring and harvesting equipment for summer. See
also a wonderful collection of scale model horse-drawn
vehicles and an array of superb corn dollies and sculptures.
Elsewhere you can explore a typical farmhouse kitchen,
laundry or dairy with its butter making tools. Look in on
the blacksmith, the cobbler at his last and the wheelwright.
See all the equipment used by farmers for a century or so –
from wagons and tractors to hoes and billhooks and
understand from recent research the way local people
contributed to the Second World War.
There’s plenty for the young, too – from ‘driving’ old
tractors to controlling our model railway layout. All in all
a visit to the Museum is a fascinating experience for people
of all ages.
